Objective
Upon successful completion of this course trainees will have learned to operate the truck safely and skillfully. They will have stacked and de-stacked loads at various heights under simulated working conditions. They will have demonstrated their ability by undergoing a Practical Skill Test.

Course Content
Introduction to the truck, explanation of its functions and identification of controls
Safe Operating practices, why we have safety rules and the duty to using the machine as recommended by the manufactures
Driving, Explanations, Demonstrations and supervised practice in all aspects of forklift Truck operation
Daily Safety checks, to ensure the truck is in safe working order – the operator’s  responsibilities Battery Care. Understanding the hydrometer, safety in re-charging, and the need to top up electrolyte
Fork Lift Stability: Explanation of the capabilities and limitations of the machine. The duty of the operator to heed manufactures rulings with regard to size and weight of loads and correctly use the machine. Explanation of typical malpractice that could render the truck unstable.
The Hydraulic System: Explanation and demonstration of the workings of a simple hydraulic system.
The possible dangers and how to avoid them
Operating Correctly: Explanation / Demonstration and supervised student practice in the correct handling, transporting, stacking etc, of various types of load in progressively more realistic simulated working conditions
Lorry Loading/ Unloading Explanation, Demonstration and supervised practice in safe lorry loading.
