1. Aim    To provide the practical skills and the operating safety knowledge necessary to train operators to correctly prepare, safely operate and correctly maintain a lorry loader crane.
2. Elements  The Course will comprise theoretical and practical instruction covering the   following
2.1 Responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974, and other relevant
legislation and guidelines
2.2 Major components     2.3 Pre-operational checks      2.4 Motive and hydraulic controls
2.5 Operating safety rules and procedures           2.6 Siting and stability factors
2.7 Load indicators and limit switches                  2.8 Hydraulic safety devises
2.9 Blocked duties and ground pressures              2.10  Lifting, manoeuvring and lowering loads
3. Knowledge   On completion of the course trainees will have a  understanding of the following
3.1 Responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974, and other relevant  legislation and guidelines.
3.2 The working components                              3.3 Safety rules and operating procedures
3.4 Pre-shift checks and basic maintenance.       3.5 Factors affecting stability
3.6 Siting and crane                                          3.7 Variable environmental factors
4. Skill  On completion of the course, trainees will be able to:
4.1 Carry out pre-shift checks      4.2 Drive and operate the equipment safely and efficiently
4.3 Sling loads commonly carried
3. Accreditation
Certificate of attendance.  Each trainee is assessed during the practical element of the course to ensure full understanding of all systems of work taught.  There is also a written multiple choice theory test paper followed by a full debrief.  A minimum of 80% on the theory is required to secure a pass.
Ratio: 1 Machine: 2 Candidates: 1 Instructor, Duration: 2 - 4 Days
